Suicide Bomber Kills 12 Outside Islamabad Court; Many Injured

UPDATE: A devastating suicide bombing outside the Islamabad district court has left at least 12 people dead and numerous others injured, according to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The attack occurred on Tuesday as the bomber attempted to breach the court’s entrance before detonating the explosive device near a police vehicle.

The explosion took place shortly after the bomber lingered outside the court for 10 to 15 minutes, suggesting a calculated attempt to maximize casualties in an area typically bustling with litigants and visitors. Eyewitness accounts describe the scene as chaotic, with individuals covered in blood lying next to a police van, as captured in harrowing images circulating on local media.

Minister Naqvi emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “We are investigating this incident from different angles. It is not just another bombing. It happened right in Islamabad.” The urgency of the investigation underscores the potential implications of this attack in a city considered a political hub.

As local hospitals work to treat the injured, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition, authorities are grappling with the aftermath of this deadly incident. The bombing raises serious concerns about security measures in place at public institutions, particularly those frequented by large crowds.

The Islamabad district court, which was overwhelmed by the blast, is a central location for legal proceedings in the capital. As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

With the nation in shock, this tragic event highlights the ongoing security challenges in Pakistan. The government is expected to address the public soon, outlining steps to enhance safety and prevent future tragedies.
