In a significant shift for 7NEWS Perth, world record-holding presenters Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon will adjust their roles in 2026, marking the beginning of a new era for the news program. After four decades of leading Perth’s news team, Carr and Ardon will continue to co-anchor the flagship 6pm bulletin from Thursday to Saturday, while Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun will take charge from Sunday to Wednesday.
Carr expressed her enthusiasm for the changes, stating it allows them to enjoy life outside the studio after such a long tenure. “We often get asked just how long we’ll remain in the role, and now seems the right time to stay at the desk but start freeing ourselves up to enjoy life away from the studio more,” she noted. Reflecting on her experience delivering news for 40 years, she emphasized the importance of embracing change when it occurs on one’s own terms.
New Beginnings for Tim McMillan and Angela Tsun
Ardon, who remains committed to his role, echoed Carr’s sentiments regarding their relationship with viewers. “We’re continuing our strong relationship with our loyal viewers, and I expect to be a news breaker well into the future,” he shared.
Ray Kuka, director of news and current affairs, affirmed that Carr and Ardon will continue to play a vital role in 7NEWS Perth’s identity. He stated that the new schedule will allow them to contribute in ways that leverage their extensive experience. “2025 was a celebration of Sue and Rick’s historic contribution to WA, with a world record of 40 years fronting a news bulletin,” Kuka remarked. “It became clear this was the right time to give them more flexibility, while ensuring the future of WA’s most watched and trusted bulletin continues to thrive with their enduring influence.”
The transition also presents a valuable opportunity for McMillan and Tsun to strengthen their partnership alongside Carr and Ardon. McMillan brings over two decades of experience in reporting and presenting across Australia, including significant national coverage and award-winning hosting roles. Tsun, who has been with Seven for over ten years, has established herself as a respected anchor known for her warmth and clarity.
Looking Ahead to 2026
McMillan expressed admiration for Carr and Ardon, stating, “They’ve taught us to care about every detail but most importantly how to be loyal to the people who matter most: our viewers.” Tsun added, “Watching them has helped me develop to a point where we’re ready for the future, a future we will approach together, and I cannot wait for 2026.”
Maryna Fewster, CEO of Seven West Media WA, described 2026 as a pivotal year for 7NEWS Perth. “If 2025 wasn’t big enough, 2026 is going to be huge with this shuffling of roles on the 7NEWS desk in such a respectful and supported manner,” Fewster stated.
Christien de Garis, the news director, emphasized that while the anchors on certain nights will change, the quality of journalism will remain robust. “Our promise to WA is to deliver more of the stories that matter to you,” he affirmed.
McMillan and Tsun will continue to file stories for 7NEWS, with McMillan also maintaining his role on Money Talks. They will be supported by Ryan Daniels on sports and Samantha Jolly on weather, with Adrian Barich and Charlotte Goodlet remaining part of the weekend team. The new schedule is set to go live on air on January 18, 2026.
