Sydney’s NYE Fireworks to Feature Jono Ma’s Epic Soundtrack

UPDATE: Sydney Harbour is set to dazzle this December 31, 2025, as the iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks display will be accompanied by a groundbreaking soundtrack from acclaimed composer Jono Ma, co-founder of Sonar Music. This year, the twelve-minute piece titled Higher Together promises to elevate the midnight moment to a sensational level, perfectly synchronizing with the spectacular pyrotechnics above the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

The anticipation builds as millions around the globe tune in to the live broadcast via the ABC, marking a pivotal cultural moment for Australia. The track is a complex composition that blends genres such as acid house, gospel, rave, and electro, all layered with an orchestral arrangement. Ma has collaborated with over 100 musicians and creatives to ensure the energy remains electric throughout the performance.

“This NYE project is an exciting creative moment for Sonar Music, showcasing our work on the world stage,” stated Sophie Haydon, Executive Producer at Sonar Music. The studio, established in 2010, has garnered over 300 accolades for its diverse contributions to both local and international media, including award-winning films and iconic advertising campaigns.

The timing of this ambitious project coincides with the upcoming release of Sonar Music’s original series RUN on January 1, 2026, featuring a darker, atmospheric score crafted by Ma and composer Jackson Milas. This series tells the gripping story of notorious Australian bank robber Brenden “Postcard Bandit” Abbott, showcasing Ma’s versatility as a composer.

As the clock counts down to midnight, viewers can expect a unique auditory experience that reflects Australia’s vibrant creative scene. The meticulous timing required to synchronize music with fireworks over such a vast area underscores the technical excellence of this production.

The fireworks display is not just a feast for the eyes but also a celebration of local talent, reinforcing Australia’s position as a hub for world-class creative directors. Ma’s work exemplifies the fusion of music and visuals in a way that captivates audiences both in Sydney and around the globe.

With the Sydney NYE fireworks show fast approaching, the energy is palpable. As you stand by the shores of Sydney Harbour, remember to tune in to the layers of the Higher Together track, the culmination of months of dedicated work.

As 2025 draws to a close, it’s clear that the sound of Australian media is in skilled hands, with Sonar Music poised for a groundbreaking year ahead in 2026. For more on their projects, visit https://sonarmusic.com.au/.
