Tamworth Skywalk Closures Announced: Key Roads Shut for Weeks

URGENT UPDATE: Major road closures are set to impact access to the popular Tamworth Skywalk as construction progresses. Starting from March 8, both pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be restricted on Scenic Road and surrounding trails for the next three weeks.

Officials from FORGE Constructions have confirmed that the installation of the 1,470-metre Skywalk is well underway, with key sections such as elevated boardwalks and a community lookout now in place. This lookout will soar over 120 metres above Tamworth, offering breathtaking views for future visitors.

The council has scheduled closures during the following periods: from 10 PM Sunday, March 8 to 6 PM Friday, March 13, again from 10 PM Sunday, March 15 to 6 PM Friday, March 20, and finally from 10 PM Sunday, March 22 to 6 PM Friday, March 27. All access to Scenic Road, the Kamilaroi Walking Track, and other walking trails will be halted during these times to ensure safety for both the community and construction staff.

Residents near White Street and Scenic Road should prepare for increased heavy vehicle traffic from 4:30 AM to 7 AM as the project moves forward. The contractor has emphasized that preparation for a “complex bridge lift” will occur this month, involving the positioning of a 20-metre enclosed pedestrian road bridge across Scenic Drive.

The council urges all visitors to remove vehicles and personal belongings before 10 PM each Sunday, as access will be strictly prohibited until re-opening each Friday evening.

This construction project, which is set for completion in mid-2026, promises to transform the Tamworth skyline and enhance local tourism. As the Skywalk takes shape, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to stay informed and plan their visits accordingly, as these temporary closures are vital for ensuring safety and progress.

Stay tuned for more updates as this significant project continues to unfold.
