URGENT UPDATE: Better mobile service is on the way for Lancefield as Telstra gears up to launch its 5G network upgrade. Starting at 7:30 AM on September 1, 2023, the mobile base station located north of Lancefield-Tooboorac Road will be temporarily switched off to facilitate this crucial enhancement, with services expected to resume by 7:00 PM on September 8.
This upgrade is set to significantly boost the existing 4G coverage, delivering higher speeds and increased capacity to residents and businesses in the area. According to Steve Tinker, regional general manager for northern and western Victoria at Telstra, this is a major milestone for mobile connectivity in the region.
“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country,” Tinker stated. He emphasized that the rollout of 5G will mean faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less network congestion for users.
While the upgrade is underway, some temporary disruptions to mobile services are expected. Telstra assures customers that the central mobile site in Lancefield will remain operational and unaffected. However, residents should prepare for further interruptions on September 9 and September 10, during daytime hours.
This imminent upgrade reflects Telstra’s commitment to enhancing connectivity in rural areas, ensuring that residents can access reliable and fast mobile networks to meet their needs. The rollout of 5G technology is poised to transform how the community interacts with technology, supporting everything from personal communications to business operations.
