Three Men Charged with Murder in Bega After Stabbing Incident

UPDATE: Three men have been charged with murder following a major police investigation in Bega, NSW. The arrests come after a violent incident that left one man dead and another injured.

At approximately 7:30 AM on November 20, officers from the South Coast Police District executed a series of arrests at homes in Bega and nearby Bemboka. A 32-year-old man faces charges including murder and possession of an unauthorized firearm. Additionally, men aged 29 and 34 have also been charged with murder, while a 19-year-old woman remains under police guard in a hospital for unrelated medical treatment.

The charges stem from a grave incident on October 6, when emergency services responded to reports of a man in distress on East Street in Bega. Officers discovered Gordon Kessey, 43, suffering from stab wounds; he tragically died at the scene. Another victim, Benjamin Smith, 45, was hospitalized but has since been released.

The investigation, led by Strike Force Nakstone, has seen police establish a crime scene and seize two vehicles for forensic analysis. Recently, detectives executed a search warrant at a Bega unit, confiscating a knife and electronic devices.

Authorities have indicated that this is an ongoing investigation, with further arrests possible. Detective Acting Inspector Luke Walshe stated, “

The investigation is still ongoing. We have arrested four people, but we will allege that a number of other people are also involved in that incident.

” He emphasized that the team is diligently working to uncover more details and potential suspects.

As the situation develops, police continue to appeal to the public for information. The community remains in shock as these events unfold, emphasizing the urgent need for justice in the wake of this violent crime.

Stay tuned for updates as investigations under Strike Force Nakstone proceed.
