Three Men Charged with Murder in Bega After Stabbing Incident

UPDATE: Three men have been charged with murder following a major police investigation in Bega, NSW. The arrests come after a violent incident that left one man dead and another injured.

At approximately 7:30 AM on November 20, officers from the South Coast Police District executed a series of arrests at homes in Bega and nearby Bemboka. A 32-year-old man faces charges including murder and possession of an unauthorized firearm. Additionally, men aged 29 and 34 have also been charged with murder, while a 19-year-old woman remains under police guard in a hospital for unrelated medical treatment.

The charges stem from a grave incident on October 6, when emergency services responded to reports of a man in distress on East Street in Bega. Officers discovered Gordon Kessey, 43, suffering from stab wounds; he tragically died at the scene. Another victim, Benjamin Smith, 45, was hospitalized but has since been released.

The investigation, led by Strike Force Nakstone, has seen police establish a crime scene and seize two vehicles for forensic analysis. Recently, detectives executed a search warrant at a Bega unit, confiscating a knife and electronic devices.

Authorities have indicated that this is an ongoing investigation, with further arrests possible. Detective Acting Inspector Luke Walshe stated, “

The investigation is still ongoing. We have arrested four people, but we will allege that a number of other people are also involved in that incident.

” He emphasized that the team is diligently working to uncover more details and potential suspects.
