Urgent Arrest: Migrant Sex Offender Captured After Manhunt

UPDATE: UK police have successfully apprehended Hadush Kebatu, a migrant sex offender, after a tense three-day manhunt that has captured national attention. Kebatu was arrested in north London and is set to be deported following his release from prison due to a clerical error.

Kebatu, 38, was originally sentenced in September 2023 to a 12-month term for sexually assaulting a teenage girl and a woman. He was meant to be transferred to an immigration detention center upon his release on Friday, but was mistakenly freed instead. The fallout from his release ignited weeks of protests, reflecting rising tensions surrounding immigration in the UK.

Commander James Conway of the Metropolitan Police, who led the investigation, stated, “This has been a diligent and fast-paced investigation supported by Essex Police and British Transport Police.” He credited public tips for leading officers to Finsbury Park, where Kebatu was located and detained.

In a statement on X, UK Secretary of State for Justice David Lammy confirmed, “Kebatu has been arrested, is now in custody and will be deported.” He also announced an immediate review of release protocols to prevent future errors.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed these sentiments, emphasizing, “We must make sure this doesn’t happen again.” The arrest comes after Kebatu’s prior offenses sparked significant unrest, with protests outside the hotel where he was residing in Essex, intensifying public discourse on immigration policies.

This urgent situation remains fluid as authorities work to address the implications of Kebatu’s release and arrest. As the investigation unfolds, key questions about the handling of his case and immigration protocols are being raised.

As the UK grapples with public sentiment over immigration, this incident serves as a critical flashpoint in the ongoing debate. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
