Urgent Call for Locals: Promote Country Change Now!

UPDATE: RDA Riverina has launched an urgent call for locals to help promote a transformative lifestyle shift through its new ‘Country Change’ social media campaign. As part of this initiative, residents are encouraged to share the compelling benefits of living in the region, aimed specifically at those along the east coast.

CEO Rachel Whiting emphasized the power of personal recommendations, stating, “When someone hears directly from a friend or family member about the opportunities, lifestyle, and sense of community here, it’s powerful.” This grassroots effort seeks to reshape perceptions about country living and highlight the thriving communities that await potential newcomers.

The campaign culminates in the 2025 Country Change Expo, scheduled for September 13 in Wagga Wagga and October 25 in Griffith. This event will provide an invaluable opportunity for attendees to meet with local councils, employers, community groups, and schools. Whiting added, “The Expo is not just about showcasing jobs; it’s about showing people the whole picture—where they could work, where they could live, and how they could belong.”

Maryann Iannelli, the local connector for the ‘Welcome Experience’ campaign, supports this initiative by helping newcomers integrate into regional communities. “Overall, the ‘Make a Move’ campaign is about building awareness for those who don’t already live in regional communities,” she said. “The regional lifestyle is very different from a metro one, but it’s also quite rewarding.”

Iannelli, who spent ten years in Canberra and Melbourne, shared her personal journey of returning to the region. “I really missed that closeness to family and community engagement that I didn’t find in metro areas. Many regional communities have very active sporting clubs and community groups—those are significant attributes.”

While this lifestyle shift may not be for everyone, Iannelli urges those curious about country living to explore the options available. “If you have an inkling that this might be something you’d enjoy, it’s worth doing a bit of recon and coming out,” she said.

The urgency of this campaign is amplified by the ongoing changes in lifestyle preferences post-pandemic. As more people seek work-life balance, the allure of regional living continues to grow. The Country Change Expo promises guided town tours and firsthand experiences, making it a pivotal moment for potential movers.
