UPDATE: The City of Whittlesea urgently seeks passionate youths aged 12-22 years to apply for the 2026-2027 Youth Council. This is a unique opportunity for young leaders to shape their community’s future and influence local decision-making directly. Applications close on October 19, 2025, so time is of the essence!

The Youth Council serves a two-year term, allowing participants to represent their peers and address critical issues that matter most to young people in the municipality. Whittlesea Mayor Martin Taylor emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Through the Youth Council, young people have a direct voice in local decision-making. They provide advice, raise issues that matter to them, and play an active role in driving positive change across Whittlesea.”

This program is not just about representation; it’s about empowerment. Kaynat Virk, the youth mayor, shared her transformative experience, saying, “Over the last two years, I’ve not only grown in confidence and leadership but have seen every Youth Councillor develop their voice, their skills, and their ability to advocate for meaningful change.”

Young individuals interested in making a difference should act quickly to secure their spot in this influential role. The youth council aims to bring fresh perspectives into council priorities while addressing pressing youth issues such as mental health, education, and community engagement.

For those ready to take action, visit the Engage Whittlesea website to apply. Don’t miss this chance to be at the forefront of local change and to advocate for the future you envision!

As the deadline approaches, the City of Whittlesea is eager to see a diverse group of young leaders come forward. This is a pivotal moment for the youth of Whittlesea to step up, share their visions, and impact their community positively.
