UPDATE: A rapidly worsening bushfire near Trawool, Central Victoria, is prompting urgent warnings for residents to prepare for potential evacuation. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) reports that the fire, which has already consumed approximately 100 hectares, is advancing east towards Kerrisdale and could change direction at any moment due to forecasted gusty winds.
Authorities stress the importance of monitoring the situation closely as conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly this evening. “You must monitor conditions and be ready to act,” a CFA spokesman urged. “The threat is reduced, but the situation can change at any time.”
Chief Officer Jason Heffernan shared alarming insights during a live report on 9 News, highlighting the fire’s rapid spread and the imminent risk to property. “We are expecting, in the next couple of hours, for that frontal system to come through,” Heffernan noted. “Wind gusts could reach up to 60 km/hr, pushing the fire further east, directly threatening homes and infrastructure.”
The CFA has issued a Watch and Act warning for residents in Kerrisdale, Reedy Creek, Strath Creek, and Tallarook. Residents are advised to enact their fire survival plans immediately. “Monitor changes to the situation. Increased wind speed, change in wind direction, smoke or poor visibility can indicate the situation is changing,” the warning emphasized.
Emergency alerts are expected to escalate as the cold front approaches, with peak conditions anticipated between 6 PM and 8 PM on Tuesday. Firefighters are already working tirelessly to contain the blaze, but the evolving weather patterns present significant challenges.
Road closures have been implemented in the area as a precautionary measure. Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and to prioritize their safety above all else. “Leave if the situation changes or you feel unsafe,” authorities caution.
This developing situation underscores the urgent need for vigilance among Central Victoria residents as fire conditions remain volatile. Stay tuned for further updates as firefighters continue their efforts to combat this aggressive bushfire.
