Urgent Fire Destroys Shed, Damages Solar Panels in North Wangaratta

A significant fire erupted at a property in North Wangaratta, severely damaging a shed and several solar panels. Emergency services, including the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Fire Rescue Victoria, were dispatched to the incident on Grossman Drive at 10:55 PM on October 19, 2023.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the shed engulfed in flames. A CFA spokesman reported, “Upon arrival, crews found a shed fully involved with fire. Several solar panels on the roof of the shed were also alight.” The situation escalated quickly, prompting a rapid response to prevent further damage.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours, successfully bringing it under control by 11:16 PM. The site was declared safe at 12:49 AM. Authorities confirmed that the fire is not being treated as suspicious; however, the exact cause remains under investigation.

Police were also present at the scene to assist with the aftermath. This incident follows an unrelated fire on October 16, when firefighters prevented a truck fire from spreading to a shed at a property in Norong, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by local fire services.

The North Wangaratta fire serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of rural property fires. As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
