URGENT UPDATE: Police in New South Wales are urgently seeking witnesses and dashcam footage after a driver was allegedly linked to seven separate crashes this morning in the Blue Mountains. The chaotic series of incidents began shortly before 10:30 AM along the Great Western Highway, as drivers reported a white Hyundai Santa Fe being driven erratically between Mt Victoria and Glenbrook.
Eyewitness accounts flooded in via Triple-O calls, with multiple reports suggesting that the driver was aggressively forcing other vehicles off the road. Just ten minutes after the initial reports, a significant crash involving a Honda SUV occurred at nearby Hazelbrook, where the Hyundai driver allegedly fled the scene.
Authorities were next alerted to a collision at Glenbrook, involving the same Hyundai and a BMW SUV. The driver, identified as a 31-year-old man from Oatley, reportedly abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. An off-duty police officer intervened, leading to a physical confrontation where the suspect allegedly bit the officer on the chest.
The officer, with the assistance of bystanders, managed to detain the suspect. Both men were taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment, with the suspect remaining under police guard. The officer was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further care.
Police have stated they hope to speak with the suspect once he is medically cleared but are calling on the public for assistance. They urge anyone with footage or information about the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers or Springwood Police immediately.
This situation is developing, and authorities are committed to ensuring safety on the roads. Stay tuned for updates as the investigation continues.
