UPDATE: Three individuals have been rushed to the hospital following a serious two-car crash at a notorious intersection in Warrnambool on January 26, 2025. The incident occurred at 12:07 PM, causing significant traffic delays as emergency services responded.
Authorities report that the collision happened on a busy highway filled with holidaymakers returning home after the long weekend. The highway was slowed for over an hour while paramedics treated the injured and vehicles were towed from the scene.
Acting Sergeant Lachie Barling of the Warrnambool police confirmed that initial investigations suggest one of the vehicles failed to yield at the intersection, a location known for its high accident rates. He stated, “This intersection is very notorious,” highlighting concerns about driver awareness at stop and give-way signs.
Both drivers from the vehicles involved, as well as a passenger in a Ford Territory, were transported to the hospital for treatment. Sergeant Barling urged drivers to remain vigilant, especially during this holiday season, as heightened police presence has seen increased intercepts, breath tests, and drug tests across the area.
“We want everyone to arrive at their destination safely,” he emphasized. The crash is part of a troubling trend at the intersection, which has seen multiple incidents in recent years, including previous collisions at nearby intersections such as Kelp, Banyan, and Japan streets.
In a related incident on January 24, 2026, a 55-year-old Warrnambool man was apprehended by Highway Patrol for driving while disqualified. He refused to submit to a preliminary breath test and now faces legal repercussions, including a court summons and a fee of $1,650.50 to retrieve his impounded vehicle.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
