Urgent Traffic Stop in Griffith Nets $2,254 in Fines

UPDATE: A traffic stop in Griffith has resulted in a staggering $2,254 in fines for a young woman accused of failing to properly restrain four children in her vehicle. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on October 6, 2023, during a routine random breath test on Coolah Street.

Police officers allege that during the inspection, they observed four unrestrained children in the vehicle. Two of the children were reportedly not seated in child restraint seats, while the other two were in child seats but not correctly secured. This alarming situation raises serious safety concerns for child passengers.

The 23-year-old driver was issued multiple infringement notices, including a $330 fine for not displaying her P-plates, resulting in two demerit points. Additionally, she faced a hefty $1,784 fine for transporting four or more passengers without proper restraints, accumulating six more demerit points. She was also fined $140 for failing to comply with vehicle standards.

As police continue to address traffic safety, they are also urging local residents to be vigilant against counterfeit currency. Authorities have reported an increase in counterfeit $50 and $100 notes circulating in the Griffith area. Businesses are advised to inspect notes closely and to report any suspicious currency to local police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of child safety in vehicles and the need for community awareness regarding counterfeit money. More updates are expected as police continue their investigations and monitor traffic safety in the area.
