Urgent Update: AI-Generated Videos Mislead on Tesla Charging

URGENT UPDATE: New reports confirm that viral videos purporting to show Tesla electric cars charging from towed diesel generators are AI-generated fakes. These misleading clips have circulated widely on social media, raising eyebrows and sparking debates about electric vehicle functionality.

A recent post on Facebook featured a striking video of a Tesla purportedly towing a diesel generator while charging. The caption read, “Tesla Owner Charges on the Highway Using a Diesel Generator — Seriously?!” However, AAP FactCheck has thoroughly investigated and confirmed that these videos are not authentic.

The footage in question bears the watermark of OpenAI’s Sora, indicating it was created using AI technology. Viewers can spot glaring visual clues that mark the videos as artificially generated. Notably, the Tesla’s registration plate shifts positions throughout the clip, further proving its inauthenticity.

While some posts in Australia feature similar videos without obvious watermarks, these too reveal inconsistencies. One clip shows the trailer appearing to hover, unattached to the Tesla, and incorrectly places the charging port. Such flaws underscore the deceptive nature of these viral videos.

The rapid spread of these AI-generated clips poses potential risks as misinformation about electric vehicles proliferates online. AAP FactCheck, an accredited member of the International Fact-Checking Network, emphasizes the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social platforms like Instagram, Threads, X, BlueSky, TikTok, and YouTube.

As the conversation around electric vehicles escalates, it’s crucial for consumers to remain informed about the technologies they are considering. The implications of such misinformation can affect public perception and trust in electric vehicle advancements.

As this story develops, officials urge the public to be cautious about sharing unverified content online. Stay tuned for updates, and remember to verify before you share!
