URGENT UPDATE: Vashti Muller’s triumphant return to the Henty Swampies has ignited excitement as the team advances to the semifinals following a thrilling elimination final victory. Just under a decade since her last game with the Swampies, the 24-year-old defender’s homecoming is described as “exactly what the heart needed.”
After showing support for the Kilo family following the tragic passing of 20-year-old Henry Kilo in June, Muller registered for what she initially thought would be a one-off game in round nine. “I was so grateful. It was such a good game that we were able to play in, and very memorable,” Muller shared about her return. “At that point, I was in Terrigal and not loving it, but I was going to stick it out. Two weeks later, I decided I needed to be home.”
In a twist of fate, Muller registered just in time, as the cutoff date for playing was fast approaching. “I asked Geetz (Brigetta Singe), is there any chance you have a spot for me?” she recalled. Coincidentally, that week coincided with fellow player Molly Murray’s announcement to return home as well, marking significant changes for the team.
Muller’s journey included a stint with the Wodonga Raiders in the Ovens and Murray League before transitioning to football in Wollongong. Her success has been undeniable, securing back-to-back premierships with the Wollongong Lions and another title with the Figtree Saints. “I really enjoyed the footy; it was a good lifestyle,” she stated.
Since returning to Henty, Muller has played a pivotal role in their playoff run, helping the Swampies secure a spot in the A-grade semifinals for the first time in years. “It’s been really beautiful,” she said. “I’m very honoured that Henty was happy to take me back, so here I am making the most of every opportunity.”
The Swampies’ recent victory against Osborne in the elimination final was a testament to their determination. “Our crowd was so good in the final, and it just emphasizes what the club is like. Everyone just gets around everyone,” Muller noted. “We just have to take every game as it comes, and we’re already pretty happy with how far we’ve made it.”
Looking ahead, the Swampies are set to face the Billabong Crows in a sudden-death final at Holbrook on Sunday. “We’re feeling good going into it, but obviously finals bring a different game,” Muller acknowledged. “We just want to play some good netball.”
As excitement builds for the upcoming semifinal, the community’s support for the Henty Swampies continues to swell, with fans eager to witness what this thrilling season will bring next. Stay tuned for further updates as the Swampies aim for victory!
