UPDATE: West Coast Eagles co-captain Liam Duggan has confirmed that Jack Graham addressed the team immediately following his four-week suspension for a homophobic slur. This incident comes as the Eagles prepare for a crucial match against Adelaide at Optus Stadium this Sunday.

Graham, who joined the Eagles from Richmond at the end of last season, self-reported his misconduct after the incident against a Greater Western Sydney player in round 17. Duggan stated, “‘Fridge’ (Graham) did what he had to do. Obviously, he owned the mistake and moved on.” His return is seen as vital for the Eagles’ inexperienced midfield.

The Eagles are coming off an alarming 83-point loss to Melbourne, with coach Andrew McQualter admitting the team was “not tough enough.” Duggan, who is set to play his 200th game this weekend, acknowledged McQualter’s assessment as “fair” and emphasized the need for honesty and transparency within the team.

“You have to be honest with yourself and the team as we look to improve,” Duggan said, reflecting on the team’s recent performance. “We’ve probably let those slip a little bit the last handful of games, but we’ve got three more to go to keep finding out what that is for us.”

Duggan expressed his excitement about reaching the 200-game milestone, particularly as it coincides with the farewell parade for retiring premiership legends Jeremy McGovern and Dom Sheed during halftime. He noted, “It’s a big milestone for me and my family, and I’m happy to share it with Gov and Dom.”

As the Eagles prepare for the ultimate challenge against the top-ranked Adelaide team, Duggan emphasized the importance of securing wins. “Whether it’s this week or next year, we all want some wins,” he stated, acknowledging Adelaide’s current form.

The Eagles, facing challenges with a young squad due to injuries to key players like Oscar Allen and Elliot Yeo, have placed significant responsibility on their younger members. “We’ve asked a lot of our young fellas to come on and play roles that I didn’t have to play when I started out,” Duggan explained, urging both experienced players and newcomers to step up.

With this backdrop, the Eagles are gearing up for a critical match that could shape their season. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how the team will respond to these challenges and whether they can turn the tide with Graham’s return to the lineup.
