URGENT UPDATE: A 23-year-old woman tragically died from her injuries after being struck in an allegedly intentional hit-and-run incident on the Sunshine Coast. The incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday, December 16, 2023, when a white Toyota Yaris plowed into a group of eight pedestrians near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Aerodrome Road in Maroochydore.
Witnesses report that the car, driven by Guilherme Dal Bo, 38, struck the group after a confrontation at a nearby pedestrian crossing. The impact left several individuals injured, with the woman being critically hurt. She was initially taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday night.
Authorities confirmed that Dal Bo fled the scene but was quickly tracked down to an apartment on Alexandra Parade shortly after the incident. He has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder, and police are assessing whether to upgrade the charges following the woman’s death.
Three other pedestrians, including two teenage men, sustained serious injuries in the crash. Their conditions remain undisclosed as investigations continue. Dal Bo is scheduled to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 19, 2023.
