Young Entrepreneur Launches Ethical Jewellery to Fund Social Change

A young entrepreneur from Tamworth, New South Wales, is transforming her passion for business into a vehicle for social change. Gina Kim, 17, has initiated a pop-up event aimed at raising funds for the Raise Foundation, an organization that assists vulnerable young people through mentorship programs. This initiative will feature her “high-grade ethical jewellery” at the Peel Street Markets on March 15, 2024, with a goal of raising at least $200 to support the foundation’s efforts.

“Our pop-up is based on leadership among young people, and we’re supporting the Raise Foundation,” Kim stated. The entrepreneur recognizes the challenges many youths in Australia face when it comes to career direction and financial stability. “A lot of young people in Australia don’t really know what they want to do or how they wish to make money, and so Raise just kind of helps that through adult mentorship,” she explained.

The project has evolved from a simple passion into what Kim refers to as “an adaptive learning ecosystem.” She aims to leverage her business to promote social responsibility. “I am really passionate about using business as a tool for ethical change. I want to change things,” she added. Kim is critical of the profit-driven motivations that often dominate businesses today and advocates for a shift towards investing in the environment and education.

Support from the Community and Future Aspirations

Kim’s initiative is bolstered by the support of her school, Peel High. Teachers and fellow students have rallied around her, encouraging her entrepreneurial spirit. Looking ahead, Kim plans to expand her knowledge in business by pursuing a double degree in economics and business at the University of New South Wales. “I want to learn more about the field before I fully dip my foot into it,” she stated.

The pop-up event offers not only an opportunity for Kim to fundraise but also to inspire other young people to consider the potential of ethical entrepreneurship. By blending her passion for business with a commitment to social change, Kim exemplifies how youth can play a significant role in shaping their communities.

As she prepares for this weekend’s market, Kim remains hopeful about the impact her efforts will have. “I believe that if we invest in young people and provide them with the right guidance, we can create a more equitable society,” she concluded.
