UPDATE: Zenith Minerals has just announced significant advancements in its gold exploration efforts at the Red Mountain project in Queensland, revealing high-grade drilling results that could reshape the gold landscape. Recent reverse circulation (RC) drilling yielded impressive results, including 93 metres grading 0.43 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 34 metres grading 0.39 g/t gold. These findings underscore the company’s rapid progress and potential for substantial mineral wealth.
The latest drilling data comes from a recent program targeting the emerging intrusion-related gold (IRG) deposit at Red Mountain. Previously reported highlights included a standout hit of 122 metres grading 1.28 g/t gold, which included 55 metres at an impressive 2.18 g/t gold. Zenith’s managing director, Andrew Smith, expressed optimism, stating, “These latest assays provide our clearest view yet of the upper part of the Red Mountain.”
Zenith has successfully outlined both the northern and southern margins of the breccia pipe, identifying a target corridor for further drilling. The company reports that the breccia pipe remains open to the northwest and southeast, with gold grades increasing significantly to the west. Another notable drill hole hit 99 metres grading 0.28 g/t gold, extending the eastern margin of the pipe laterally.
With this momentum, Zenith has ramped up its exploration efforts by initiating diamond drilling, planning to extend mineralization down to at least 500 metres below the surface. This new phase aims to explore the potential for a high-grade feeder pipe, a characteristic often observed in other successful Queensland breccia pipe systems.
The significance of these results is amplified by historical context. The nearby Mt Wright breccia pipe, previously operated by Resolute Mining, produced over 1 million ounces of gold during its operational life. Zenith’s findings could point to similar potential at Red Mountain, particularly as geological observations suggest that breccias and volcanic rock types may mirror those found at Mt Wright.
Zenith’s ongoing commitment to its gold portfolio also includes the Dulcie gold project in Western Australia, where the Dulcie Far North prospect already boasts a mineral resource of 8.2 million tonnes grading 1.2 g/t for approximately 302,000 ounces of gold. Currently, two rigs are operational at Dulcie, across a six-kilometre corridor, further indicating Zenith’s aggressive pursuit of repeatable success.
Intrusion-related gold systems, such as those being explored at Red Mountain, are often lucrative, multi-million-ounce operations. Historical data indicates that as mineralization deepens, the quality of gold typically improves, with richer deposits of gold, copper, bismuth, and silver becoming more prevalent.
Zenith’s first drill hole back in 2021 intersected low-grade gold with lead-zinc mineralization, highlighting the potential for considerable vertical extent of gold continuity within breccias and volcanics. If diamond drilling confirms these substantial mineralized structures, what may currently be moderate-grade gold could possibly evolve into a treasure trove of high-grade gold, copper, and silver.
As Zenith Minerals continues to push forward with its exploration, the industry watches closely for what these promising new developments will yield. For investors and stakeholders, the unfolding story at Red Mountain could be a game-changer for the Queensland gold mining sector.
