Gordon Ramsay Urges Sun Safety After Skin Cancer Treatment

Television chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he recently underwent treatment for skin cancer, specifically basal cell carcinoma. In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, the 58-year-old chef expressed gratitude towards the healthcare professionals at The Skin Associates for their swift action in removing the cancerous growth.

In his post, Ramsay stated, “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma, thank you.” He took the opportunity to remind his followers about the importance of sun protection, saying, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend; I promise you it’s not a face lift. I’d need a refund.”

Messages of support flooded in from friends and fans alike, including notable figures such as TV judge Robert Rinder, who added a heart emoji in response. The charity Cancer Research UK also commented on Ramsay’s post, expressing relief over his recovery and thanking him for raising awareness about sun safety. They emphasized the importance of seeking shade, covering up, and applying sunscreen regularly and generously.

Understanding Basal Cell Carcinoma

According to the NHS, basal cell carcinoma is a non-melanoma form of skin cancer that typically originates in the top layer of the skin. It is primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, which can come from both sunlight and artificial sources like sunbeds. The main symptom of this condition is a growth or unusual patch on the skin, which can vary in size and appearance. It is most commonly found on areas of the body that receive significant sun exposure, including the head, neck, shoulders, back, hands, and lower legs.

Ramsay, well-known for his roles in Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and the ITV series Gordon, Gino And Fred, has made a significant mark in the culinary world. His restaurant empire has garnered a total of 17 Michelin stars, with eight currently held by his establishments.

The chef is also a family man, married to his wife Tana Ramsay, with whom he has six children. One of their daughters, Tilly Ramsay, has emerged as a television presenter in her own right, having participated in the 19th series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.

Ramsay’s public disclosure about his health issue serves not only as a personal update but also as a crucial reminder for the public about the importance of sun protection. As warmer weather approaches, his message resonates strongly, encouraging everyone to prioritize their skin health and take necessary precautions against harmful UV rays.
