Urgent Road Closure in Melton: Major Intersection Work Begins

URGENT UPDATE: Melton residents must brace for significant traffic disruptions as a crucial road closure begins at the Centenary Avenue and Coburns Road roundabout. From September 22 to October 4, the western side of Centenary Avenue will be closed due to essential upgrade works aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion.

This closure is part of a vital initiative by the Melton council to construct an additional lane, addressing the heavy traffic flow caused by the current single lane entry. The council has strategically scheduled these works during the September school holidays to minimize disruption to commuters and local residents.

According to Mayor Steve Abboushi, the upgrades will significantly enhance traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection. “We have scheduled the works during the school holiday period when there is less traffic to minimize the disruption to residents,” Cr Abboushi stated. He emphasized the importance of these improvements for making the city safer and more navigable.

In addition to the new lane, a new footpath will be constructed around the roundabout to improve pedestrian safety and access. To facilitate these enhancements, one lane on Coburns Road will also be closed on the southern side of the roundabout.

Detours will be clearly marked for the duration of the closure, directing traffic through Rosyln Park Drive or Westmelton Drive. Residents are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time due to expected delays. Heavy vehicles will have an alternative route via High Street.

Work will take place daily from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday. The council expresses gratitude for the community’s patience and cooperation during this critical phase of infrastructure improvement.
