Urgent: Five Injured in Menai Car-Bus Collision After Police Chase

UPDATE: Five people are hospitalized following a dramatic car crash involving a bus during a police pursuit in Menai last night. The incident occurred around 9:40 PM on Thursday, prompting immediate emergency response.

According to a statement from the Sutherland Highway Patrol, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Alfords Point Road. The vehicle failed to comply, leading to a high-speed pursuit along Menai Road, which ended in a collision with a bus.

Emergency services from NSW Ambulance rushed to the scene, treating the driver—a 17-year-old boy—along with four passengers: another 17-year-old boy, two men aged 18 and 20, and a 20-year-old woman. All sustained injuries reported as non-life-threatening and were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Fortunately, the bus driver and six passengers were unharmed in the crash. In response to the collision, police established a crime scene and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As a result of the crash, Menai Road has been closed between Old Illawarra Road and Alfords Point Road, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the events leading up to the crash to come forward as investigations continue. This incident highlights the risks associated with police pursuits, raising concerns over public safety during such high-stakes situations.
