BREAKING: Grand slam champion Emma Raducanu is rallying behind her less-known teammate Billy Harris as they gear up for the United Cup in Perth, starting Friday, January 5, 2025. With star player Jack Draper sidelined due to an ongoing arm injury, Raducanu is stepping into a leadership role for Team Great Britain.

Raducanu, currently ranked No. 29 in the world, faces a challenging start to the year, taking on four-time grand slam winner Naomi Osaka and former top-10 star Maria Sakkari. Meanwhile, Harris, ranked No. 124, is set to face a critical challenge, stepping in for Draper against Japan’s rising star Shintaro Mochizuki (No. 100) and the unpredictable two-time grand slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

“Obviously we would love to have Jack in the team; he is such an integral part of British tennis,” Raducanu said. “But Billy has had a great year, he has really broken through, and it’s nice to see.” Harris, who recently achieved his first grand slam victory at Wimbledon in 2025, expressed eagerness to seize the moment. “I enjoy the format and love playing for Team GB,” he stated.

In a lighter moment, Raducanu, Harris, Osaka, and Mochizuki visited Rottnest Island to take quokka selfies before their serious preparations for the tournament. Osaka reflected on her return, saying, “I had really good memories from 2018, so I’m glad that I’m back.”

The United Cup kicks off on Friday with a match-up between Spain and Argentina, followed by Greece against Japan. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Raducanu and Harris to see if they can deliver under pressure in this high-stakes event.

With the tournament set to begin at RAC Arena in Perth, fans are eager to see how the dynamics shift without Draper and how Harris can rise to the occasion. The stakes are high, and the excitement is palpable. Stay tuned for updates as the action unfolds!
