McBride Returns to Parliament, Focused on Cost Relief and Healthcare

UPDATE: McBride has officially returned to Parliament, securing his position with a commanding 59.4% of the two-party preferred vote during the May election. As the Member for Dobell, McBride was reappointed by the Prime Minister as Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, as well as Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health.

Back in Canberra, McBride is ready to tackle urgent issues affecting his constituents, particularly focusing on enhancing cost-of-living relief and improving healthcare services for locals.

The Prime Minister has confirmed that the first piece of legislation to be introduced in the new Parliament will aim to cut student loan debt by 20%, fulfilling a significant election promise. Starting from July 1, key measures will take effect, including an increase in minimum and award wages, expanded paid parental leave, and $10,000 incentives for apprentice tradies.

In a move to enhance healthcare access, the bulk billing incentive will be tripled for all Australians beginning in November, making it easier for many to see a GP without charge. McBride, the only pharmacist in Parliament, has been a vocal advocate for reducing the cost of general PBS prescriptions, with legislation set to be introduced soon to lower the price to $25.

“I’m honoured by the trust and confidence the people of the Central Coast have placed in me to continue serving as their representative,” McBride stated. He emphasized his commitment to easing the financial burden on locals through targeted relief measures, including energy bill rebates and tax cuts.

“As a healthcare worker, I understand the importance of affordable care close to home. That’s why we are already working on delivering an additional local Medicare Urgent Care Clinic and tripling the bulk billing incentive for every Australian,” McBride added.

As these pivotal changes unfold, all eyes will be on Parliament to see how these initiatives will be implemented. The community eagerly anticipates the impact of these legislative actions, which promise to significantly influence the daily lives of many.

Stay tuned for updates as further developments are expected in the coming days.
