Ashurst Appoints Alexandre Brazeau as First Technology Partner in Dubai

Global law firm Ashurst has announced the appointment of technology expert Alexandre Brazeau as a partner in its Corporate practice, based in Dubai. This strategic move marks the firm’s commitment to enhancing its offerings in the Middle East while further developing its global Digital Economy practice.

Brazeau specializes in the legal and commercial structuring of complex technology initiatives across the United Arab Emirates and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). His focus includes large-scale digital transformations, artificial intelligence, data-driven platforms, fintech, and regulated technology products. He often plays a crucial role in supporting programs integral to clients’ operational models and growth strategies.

In his career, Brazeau has acted as product counsel for leading technology companies, advising boards, general counsel, and senior technology executives on essential technology arrangements. These include platform buildouts, cloud transformations, and strategic partnerships in highly regulated environments.

Expanding the Digital Economy Practice

“We’re excited to welcome Alex as we continue to expand our Digital Economy practice globally and establish a dedicated technology offering in the Middle East,” said Amanda Ludlow, global co-head of Ashurst’s Digital Economy practice. “Alex’s experience in the technology sector is notable, particularly his deep understanding of emerging technologies and the evolving regulatory landscape.”

Managing partner for the Middle East, David Charlier, highlighted that Brazeau’s appointment reflects Ashurst’s ongoing investment in the region and its confidence in the digital trajectory of the Middle East. He noted that initiatives like the UAE National Digital Economy Strategy and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 are accelerating technology adoption, leading clients to seek advisors who comprehend the strategic and operational realities of digital transformation.

Charlier added, “Alex’s extensive experience will strengthen our existing Middle East Corporate team, enabling us to drive accelerated growth for our clients.”

Brazeau expressed his enthusiasm about joining Ashurst, stating, “The firm’s focus on the Digital Economy as a core pillar of its global strategy was a significant factor in my decision. Clients are increasingly bringing complex and strategic technology matters to market. Ashurst’s strength across its global network, along with the momentum of its Middle East platform, provides the depth and scale required to support that work.”

Growth of Ashurst’s Middle East Team

Brazeau’s arrival further enhances Ashurst’s Middle East team, which has seen significant growth, with the number of partners more than doubling to over 20 in less than two years. This latest appointment follows recent additions to the team, including real estate partner Chris Beaumont-McQuillan in Abu Dhabi, banking and finance partner Clint Dempsey, corporate partner Maha Osman in Dubai, local partner Leonid Stoliarski, and financial regulatory partner Raheel Butt in Riyadh.

With these developments, Ashurst is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for sophisticated legal services in the technology sector, underscoring its commitment to supporting clients in navigating the complexities of the digital economy in the Middle East and beyond.
