The Australian government has announced a significant new agreement that allows the export of blueberries to Vietnam, with a projected trade value of approximately $22 million over the next five years. This agreement, effective as of October 10, 2025, is poised to enhance opportunities for Australian blueberry producers while also providing access to Vietnamese pomelos for Australian consumers.
Julie Collins, the Hon. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, heralded the agreement as a vital advancement for the Australian agricultural sector. The initiative to secure this two-way trade agreement began in 2022, reflecting the robust and positive relationship between Australia and Vietnam, which has a population exceeding 100 million.
The market access to Vietnam is expected to deliver around $4 million in value within its first year, contributing to Australia’s existing $500 million blueberry industry. This agreement is part of a broader strategy by the Albanese Labor Government, which has achieved a total of 79 technical market access accomplishments across various products during the 2024-25 period. This includes efforts to maintain and restore existing markets, supporting trade worth $4 billion, as well as opening ten new markets.
By fostering new pathways for agricultural exports, the government aims to further stimulate growth in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, which is projected to exceed $100 billion by 2025-26.
In a statement, Minister Collins expressed pride in the innovative spirit of Australian blueberry producers, noting that the quality of their produce is recognized globally. “This agreement is a result of both the quality of our produce and the strength of our relationship with Vietnam,” Collins emphasized.
Since taking office, the Albanese Labor Government has committed to expanding opportunities for farmers and producers, ensuring that Australian products continue to find a place in international markets. Collins reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting these efforts, stating, “We will keep working tirelessly to expand opportunities for our farmers and producers to export our world-class products on the international stage.”
As this agreement takes shape, the Australian agricultural community looks forward to the potential benefits that increased exports to Vietnam will bring, both for producers and consumers alike.
