San Antonio’s St. Paul Square has welcomed a new culinary destination with the opening of Gigi’s Deli, which has transitioned from a popular pop-up to a permanent establishment. Located inside El Tigre Coffee, Gigi’s Deli began serving customers on March 1, 2024, offering a menu rich in Italian-inspired breakfast and lunch sandwiches.
Chef Matthew Garcia, the creative mind behind Gigi’s Deli, expressed his excitement about the new location, highlighting its significance in the local food scene. “Gigi’s Deli started as a lighthearted residency back in 2021 at Little Death, and from there, I would do occasional pop-ups throughout San Antonio. It’s exciting to now have a permanent spot in the heart of our city, something we can call home while we continue to explore bold flavors and creative takes on the classic deli experience,” he stated.
Gigi’s Deli operates five days a week, aiming to establish itself as a neighborhood favorite. The deli’s menu features classic breakfast items such as the Munchos, Egg & Cheese and the Pastrami, Egg & Cheese, alongside Italian-inspired lunch options. For those seeking a hearty meal, the Italian Disco sandwich, layered with mortadella, prosciutto, salami, and pepper relish, stands out as a highlight. The Uncle Ruben, which includes pastrami, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, and Russian dressing, is another must-try.
A Blend of Community and Culinary Tradition
The ambiance of El Tigre Coffee complements Gigi’s Deli perfectly, creating a welcoming environment for patrons to enjoy their meals. The deli’s focus on fresh ingredients and bold flavors is designed to resonate with the local community, making it a go-to spot for both breakfast and lunch.
In addition to its regular offerings, Gigi’s Deli features a rotating menu that introduces seasonal specials, ensuring that there is always something new for customers to try. This approach not only keeps the menu exciting but also emphasizes the deli’s commitment to creativity and quality.
As Gigi’s Deli settles into its new home, it brings a fresh dining option to St. Paul Square, enhancing the area’s culinary landscape. With its unique blend of community spirit and Italian flavors, the deli is poised to attract both local residents and visitors alike, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of this historic neighborhood.
