New South Wales (NSW) horticulture professionals can now benefit from the latest industry insights with the release of two updated guides from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD). The updated editions of the Orchard plant protection guide and the Grapevine management guide are now available online, providing essential resources for temperate fruit and winegrape growers across the state.
The Orchard plant protection guide is designed to serve as a crucial resource for NSW’s deciduous fruit growers. According to Jessica Fearnley-Pattison, a Temperate Fruit Development Officer and co-author of the guide, it presents the most current integrated pest and disease management (IPDM) practices. “This guide delivers the most current integrated pest and disease management practices, along with updated chemical registrations and feature articles about the latest research,” Ms Fearnley-Pattison stated. The guide specifically caters to growers of apples, cherries, summerfruit, and persimmons, as well as agronomists, advisors, and industry stakeholders.
This year’s edition includes four new feature articles that highlight NSW DPIRD research projects. These insights are designed to assist growers in implementing best practices for crop protection effectively. The updated content reflects ongoing advancements in horticulture, ensuring that professionals are equipped with the latest knowledge to enhance their production.
Grapevine Management Guide Continues Legacy
In addition to the Orchard guide, the Grapevine management guide 2025-26 remains a vital publication for the viticulture sector. According to Penny Flannery, a Viticulture Development Officer with NSW DPIRD, the guide provides practical, trial-based information that supports wine industry professionals. “This Grapevine management guide provides information for viticulturists on different aspects of vineyard management,” Ms Flannery said.
Having been published for over 30 years, this annual guide has become a cornerstone resource for winegrowers. The latest edition tackles critical topics and developments pertinent to the industry, ensuring that professionals stay informed about best practices and innovations in vineyard management.
Hard copies of both guides will be available at local agricultural retailers and regional associations starting in late September 2025. For immediate access, interested individuals can visit the NSW DPIRD website to download a digital copy of the guides. By providing these comprehensive resources, NSW DPIRD aims to enhance the productivity and sustainability of horticulture in the region.
