Amcor, a leading global provider of sustainable packaging solutions, and the French dairy cooperative Laïta have received recognition for their innovative packaging solution at the 2025 Zero Impact Packaging Trophies. The award, presented on December 10, 2025, highlights their achievement in the ‘flexible – complex packaging’ category for the environmentally friendly packaging of Paysan Breton Emmental Cheese blocks.
This initiative marks a significant shift in packaging strategy, as Amcor’s new AmPrima® PP film will replace the former multi-material structure, which included three types of plastic and was not recyclable. The new packaging solution, based on a polypropylene (PP) structure, is expected to be recyclable within existing PP flexible-film recycling streams. This aligns with the guidelines established by COTREP and the CITEO Tree Tool, set to be operational in France starting in 2026.
The transition to AmPrima® PP film not only enhances recyclability but also results in a 6% reduction in plastic weight compared to the previous packaging. This change is anticipated to reduce material use and lower Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees. Furthermore, the new film boasts a remarkable 63% reduction in carbon footprint compared to the prior structure, based on a cradle-to-grave analysis conducted using Amcor’s ASSET lifecycle assessment model, certified by Carbon Trust.
The innovative film maintains the essential benefits of the Easy Pack format, including extended shelf life, sealing integrity, and operational efficiency, ensuring that consumer convenience remains a top priority.
Commitment to Sustainability
Laura Delapeyronnie, Marketing Manager for Dairy at Amcor, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Laïta and the Paysan Breton brand is a great example of how brands can make meaningful progress toward more sustainable packaging with no compromise for their customers.”
Mathieu Boulc’h, Packaging Manager at Laïta, elaborated on the project’s objectives, noting that it aligns with the new European Packaging and Waste Regulation (PPWR). This regulation mandates manufacturers to ensure that all packaging is designed for recycling by 2030. Boulc’h stated, “By reducing the carbon footprint of this packaging, we are directly contributing to our Laïta SBTI objective, which aims to reduce it by 25% on our purchases by 2030.”
Amcor’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in its operations, which generate $23 billion in annual sales across over 400 locations in more than 40 countries. The company remains dedicated to producing responsible packaging solutions that cater to various sectors, including nutrition, health, and beauty.
Laïta, part of the Finistère-based cooperative EVEN group, processes milk from approximately 2,060 farms in Brittany and the Pays de la Loire region. The cooperative focuses on sustainable development, enabling the production of diverse dairy products while ensuring the viability of local farms. The Paysan Breton brand, created with input from its member farmers, exemplifies Laïta’s commitment to sustainability and community.
As the packaging industry continues to evolve, collaborations like that of Amcor and Laïta set a precedent for sustainable practices that not only meet consumer expectations but also contribute to environmental responsibility.
