A new kindergarten is set to be constructed at the site of the upcoming Wiyal Primary School in Fraser Rise, with plans for it to open in 2028. This initiative is part of a larger announcement made by the state government, which unveiled four new educational projects on October 27, 2023. The kindergarten will be located at 22 Pear Parade, sharing the grounds with the primary school, which will begin welcoming students in Term 1 of 2026.
The Wiyal Primary School is designed to accommodate up to 525 students, catering to grades from prep through year six. The interim-named Wiyal Primary School Kindergarten will feature three dedicated kindergarten rooms. An organization tasked with managing the kindergarten will be appointed in 2026, responsible for all aspects of enrolment and program inquiries.
The state government highlights the benefits of locating the kindergarten alongside the primary school. This arrangement is expected to ease the drop-off and pick-up process for families, while also facilitating a smoother transition for children as they move into primary education.
Lizzie Blandthorn, the Minister for Children, emphasized the importance of constructing new kindergartens in proximity to schools and homes: “Building new kindergartens where families need them most, close to schools, homes, and in communities right across Victoria is vital.”
The funding for this project forms part of a broader allocation of $1.3 billion from the 2023–24 state budget, aimed at enhancing educational facilities throughout the region. As the development progresses, the state government remains committed to improving access to early childhood education, particularly in growing communities like Fraser Rise.
As the plans unfold, the community will be closely watching the development of both the kindergarten and the primary school, anticipating the benefits these new facilities will bring to local families.
