Alaska Thunderfuck Engaged to Long-Term Partner Matthew Herrmann

Alaska Thunderfuck, the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, has announced her engagement to long-term partner Matthew Herrmann. The news broke on the evening of March 11, 2024, when Alaska shared a photo on social media showcasing a silver ring on her left hand, accompanied by ring and heart emojis.

In an exclusive statement to Entertainment Weekly, Alaska revealed that Herrmann proposed in her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, following a celebration of her grandmother’s 90th birthday. “I love him so much and he’s the best,” she stated, expressing her joy in a heartfelt message.

Community Support and Celebrations

The couple received an outpouring of love from the drag community, with numerous performers and alumni from Drag Race congratulating them. Shea Coulee, the winner of All Stars 5, commented, “Congrats sis!” while fellow season 9 contestant Peppermint added, “Congrats mama!” Denali, who competed in season 13 and All Stars 10, also shared her excitement, writing, “omg congrats lasky!!”

Even Grindr, the popular dating app, joined in the celebration, commenting on Alaska’s post with congratulatory emojis. However, not all the feedback was joyful; drag performer Jackie Beat humorously expressed her despondency over the news, stating, “I shall die alone…”

A Private Relationship and Career Highlights

Alaska and Herrmann have kept their relationship relatively private, with Herrmann maintaining a low profile. Alaska describes him as a “Los Angeles-based producer and educator,” and while he does not frequently post on social media, he shares behind-the-scenes glimpses of her work. Earlier this year, Herrmann posted a tribute to Alaska’s feature in the New York Times for her show, Drag The Musical, expressing his pride with the words, “I am so so proud of you.”

Prior to her relationship with Herrmann, Alaska was in a long-term partnership with Sharon Needles, the winner of season 4 of Drag Race. Their relationship ended in 2013, coinciding with Alaska’s debut on season 5 of the show.

As the couple embarks on this new chapter, fans and fellow performers eagerly await further updates on their journey together. Alaska’s engagement marks a significant milestone in both her personal life and her ongoing career in the entertainment industry.
