Biffy Clyro has released a new single titled “True Believer,” which emphasizes the importance of having faith in one’s life decisions. This track comes as part of their upcoming tenth studio album, Futique, set to debut on September 19, 2023. The Scottish rock band is gearing up for a significant year following the success of their previous album, The Myth of the Happily Ever After, released in 2021.
Lead singer Simon Neil shared insights about the song’s meaning in an interview with NME. He explained that “True Believer” is not about religious faith but rather about trusting one’s choices in life. He remarked, “Try not to doubt yourself so much. Whenever you’re in those moments to make big life decisions, you’re not as flippant as you think you are.” Neil reflected on his past decisions, stating, “Sometimes I look back and think, ‘Why did I make that decision?’ and actually, I knew exactly what I was doing at the time.”
The themes of Futique extend beyond personal faith. Neil elaborated, “Futique is an exploration of ideas, objects or relationships that exist across time. We are never aware when we do anything for the last time, and there’s a beauty and sadness within that.” He posed a thought-provoking question to listeners: “What will be your Futique?”
The release of “True Believer” is accompanied by an official visualiser that showcases footage from the album’s recording sessions, live performances from the summer, and behind-the-scenes glimpses. This new track follows a busy summer for the band, which included major festival appearances at TRNSMT in Glasgow, the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, and two shows at the Eden Sessions, as well as several European festivals.
Biffy Clyro, comprising members James Johnston, Ben Johnston, and Neil, will support the new album with an arena tour across the UK and Ireland in 2024. This tour will include a performance at London’s O2 Arena. Additionally, the band plans to hold a series of acoustic shows in October to celebrate the launch of Futique.
Earlier this year, Biffy Clyro previewed the album with the singles “A Little Love” and “Hunting Season.” Furthermore, Neil has kept busy, collaborating extensively in 2023 and 2024 with his side project, Empire State B******, alongside Mike Vennart. The band’s 2025 tour will feature support acts Soft Play and The Armed, as indicated in promotional materials released by the group’s management.
As Biffy Clyro continues to evolve and engage with their audience, “True Believer” stands as a testament to their enduring message of self-belief and connection through music.
