Edinburgh Council Bans Fireworks After AC/DC Concert Complaints

The City of Edinburgh Council has decided to prohibit fireworks at Murrayfield Stadium following complaints about excessive noise levels during an AC/DC concert. Local residents reported disturbances, leading to a total of eight formal complaints regarding noise pollution. This incident has prompted the council to take action to ensure future events maintain a more manageable sound level for the surrounding community.

Past Events Under Scrutiny

The situation echoes similar issues experienced during the Oasis concerts held at the same venue on August 8, 9, and 12, 2023. Complaints from residents about noise levels were prevalent during those performances as well. The council’s previous assessments described concert-goers as “mainly middle-aged men who take up more room” and noted a “medium to high intoxication” level among attendees during a safety briefing for the events.

These remarks from the council have already drawn criticism from Oasis’ frontman, Liam Gallagher, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the characterization of concert attendees. The recent decision to ban fireworks reflects a growing concern from local authorities about balancing the enjoyment of concert-goers with the quality of life for residents living near the stadium.

Community Response and Future Measures

The council’s actions highlight their commitment to addressing the community’s concerns regarding noise pollution. Residents have welcomed the decision, as many expressed frustration over the disruptive nature of fireworks, particularly during late-night events.

As Edinburgh continues to host major concerts and events, the council is likely to adopt stricter guidelines to ensure that noise levels remain within acceptable limits. Whether this will affect the overall atmosphere of future concerts at Murrayfield remains to be seen, but the council’s proactive approach aims to foster a more harmonious relationship between event organizers and local residents.

The ongoing dialogue between the City of Edinburgh Council and its community underscores the importance of balancing entertainment with public welfare, ensuring that future events can be enjoyed without compromising the peace of those living nearby.
