Rapper Kendrick Lamar has once again emerged as the leading contender for the Grammy Awards, securing nine nominations for the 2026 ceremony. This marks the second consecutive year Lamar has topped the nominations list. Close behind is pop icon Lady Gaga, who garnered seven nominations, including for her album Mayhem. Both artists are vying for the prestigious album of the year trophy, a category in which neither has previously triumphed.
The competition for album of the year includes a diverse range of nominees. Alongside Lamar’s GNX and Gaga’s Mayhem, Bad Bunny is nominated for his Spanish-language album Debí Tirar Más Fotos, while Justin Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter received nominations for Swag and Man’s Best Friend, respectively. Notably, three rap albums are in contention: Chromakopia by Tyler the Creator and Let God Sort Em Out by the duo Clipse join Lamar’s work in the category.
Despite her impressive track record, Taylor Swift‘s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, was not eligible for the 2026 awards as it was released after the Grammy eligibility window closed.
Australian Artists Shine on the Grammy Stage
Australian musicians are also making their mark this year. Amyl and the Sniffers have been nominated for best rock performance with their track U Should Not Be Doing That. Additionally, Tame Impala received a nomination for their song End of Summer in the best dance/electronic category, while Rüfüs Du Sol earned a nod for their album Inhale/Exhale in the same category.
Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican superstar who will perform at the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, secured six nominations this year, including record, song, and album of the year. He made history as the first Latin artist to be nominated in all three major categories in the same year.
Two K-pop tracks also achieved recognition in the song of the year category, which honors songwriters. The nominees include the hit song Golden from the soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters, which holds the record for the most-watched movie in Netflix’s history, alongside Apt by Rosé and Bruno Mars.
New Faces in the Best New Artist Category
In the best new artist category, Olivia Dean and Katseye will compete against Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and others. Thomas, known for his work in R&B and soul, also received a nomination for album of the year with Mutt.
The winners of the Grammy Awards will be determined by approximately 15,000 voting members of the Recording Academy. The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 1, 2026, and will take place at a red-carpet event in Los Angeles.
