The 2026 Parkes Elvis Festival kicked off with a vibrant street parade on March 4, showcasing creativity and enthusiasm as participants embraced the theme “Love Me Tender.” This year’s event, held in Parkes, Australia, featured hundreds of entries, including floats, costumes, and performances that captured the spirit of love and the essence of the famous Elvis Presley song.
As parade-goers lined the main street, many were surprised by the early start time of 9:00 AM, designed to avoid the extreme heat that has affected the region. The decision to begin an hour ahead of schedule proved beneficial, allowing thousands of spectators to enjoy the festivities while staying cool.
Creative Entries and Celebrations
The parade was a colorful spectacle, with participants drawing inspiration from both the “Love Me Tender” theme and the Western setting of the film. Creative floats and costumes reflected the joyous atmosphere, making for a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Among the highlights, the Parkes Dragon Boat Club took home the award for Best Float, while Paint the Town Red secured the runner-up position. In the non-motorised category, PASH Me Tender emerged as the winner, with the Henry Parkes Museum following closely as runner-up. The Best Walking award went to the Parkes School of Dance, with Colouby Creations as the runner-up.
The festival, sponsored by Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations, not only celebrates Elvis Presley but also fosters community spirit and creativity. The success of the parade is a testament to the dedication of the organizers and participants, who work tirelessly to bring the festival to life each year.
As the sun shone brightly over Parkes, the energy and excitement of the parade set the tone for the rest of the festival. While the streets filled with laughter and music, the spirit of Elvis continued to resonate, reminding everyone of the power of love and community.
The festival will continue to feature various events, performances, and activities in the coming days, drawing fans from across the country and beyond.
