Richard Dreyfuss Withdraws from SharkCon Due to Viral Bronchitis

Richard Dreyfuss, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in films such as *Stand by Me*, has announced that he has been diagnosed with viral bronchitis. The 77-year-old shared this news via a heartfelt video on social media, revealing his decision to withdraw from the upcoming SharkCon fan convention in Florida, which is scheduled for this weekend.

In the video posted on the SharkCon Instagram page, Dreyfuss expressed his regret, stating, “Hello cons, I’m very, very sorry to tell you that I’ve been diagnosed with viral bronchitis. And I’ve been told by my doctors I cannot fly, and I would have to fly five hours to get there.” He emphasized his disappointment, as he had eagerly anticipated attending the event.

The convention, sponsored by National Geographic, will take place in Florida. Dreyfuss reassured fans that his primary concern was not to spread the illness, saying, “I didn’t want to get anyone else sick.” He conveyed his feelings about missing the event, expressing that he “felt terrible” for not being able to attend, but prioritized his health and the wellbeing of others.

Dreyfuss candidly mentioned that he was experiencing “a lot of pain” and maintained that his health had to come first. He added humorously, “I want you all to feel very sorry for me. And very sorry for yourselves.” Despite his discomfort, he remained optimistic, stating that he would strive to attend future events.

In response to Dreyfuss’s withdrawal, SharkCon issued a statement apologizing to fans. They confirmed that all prepaid autographs and photo opportunities would be automatically refunded, stating, “There is no reason to reach out. It will take 5-10 business days plus what your bank takes for them to be processed. We are so sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you.”

Support has poured in for Dreyfuss from fellow celebrities, including actress Sharon Stone, who took to social media to offer her encouragement. Stone wrote, “Honey, feel better. The world is not good without you then come over and give me a hug.” Her message reflects the camaraderie and support often seen among Hollywood figures during challenging times.

Dreyfuss’s health concerns highlight the broader importance of prioritizing wellbeing, particularly in the demanding entertainment industry. As fans look forward to future appearances, they hope for a quick recovery for the beloved actor.
