Joondalup Festival Unveils Mamma Mia! Immersive Experience

The Joondalup Festival is set to launch an innovative experience with the premiere of Mamma Mia! Immersive. Scheduled for March 2026, this unique event will transform the beloved film musical into an engaging, interactive celebration. Local entertainment group Tone & Cheek aims to create a vibrant atmosphere, inviting audiences to participate in a lively screening at the Telethon Community Cinema in Joondalup.

This event follows the success of their previous production at the Fringe World Festival. The immersive experience promises to bring the sun-soaked atmosphere of the Greek islands to life, allowing attendees to sing along to classic ABBA hits in a festive setting. Over the course of two nights, guests will be encouraged to swap conventional movie-watching etiquette for a spirited celebration filled with music, dance, and social interaction.

In a statement, Liam Guiney, Producer at Tone & Cheek, emphasized the exclusivity of this event. “This show has been developed exclusively for Joondalup Festival — no tour, no repeats, no ‘we’ll catch it next time’,” he said. “The vibrancy of this show lives and stays with this year’s festival.”

The experience is designed to embody the coastal vibes of Joondalup, providing an ideal backdrop for a night of revelry. “It’s the perfect excuse to run away to a Greek island for the night, with no passport required,” Guiney noted. Attendees can look forward to performances by shadow dancers executing iconic moves and drag queens leading conga lines throughout the venue.

Costumes are highly encouraged, and participants are invited to leave their inhibitions behind. “The only real rule is to show up ready to play along,” said Guiney, highlighting the interactive nature of the experience.

The Joondalup Festival 2026 is supported by significant partners, including the WA Government through the Tourism Western Australia’s Metro Events Program, Lotterywest, and the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure. The full festival program is currently available for viewing and booking online.

For those seeking an unforgettable night of entertainment, Mamma Mia! Immersive promises to be a highlight of the Joondalup Festival, offering a fresh and engaging way to enjoy a classic musical.
