Ossie Indoor Beach Volleyball is hosting its inaugural 24-hour volleyball marathon this weekend, aimed at raising essential funds for vulnerable children in Western Australia. The event, dubbed the “volleython,” is part of the lead-up to **Telethon 2025**, a significant fundraising initiative for local charities.
Owner Adam Burling shared that the idea for the marathon emerged as a way to not only promote the sport but also to engage the community in a meaningful cause. “When we started to reach out [to the community] with what cause to attach it to, Telethon was the thing that came to everyone’s minds,” Burling explained.
The enthusiasm is evident, with over **220 participants** registered for the event. Presales for custom jerseys made specifically for the marathon have exceeded expectations, indicating strong community support. Participants are also encouraged to buy tickets for a large raffle, featuring donations from local businesses.
As the marathon unfolded, Burling reported a vibrant atmosphere, stating, “We’ve got six courts active, about 50 to 60 people playing as we speak. That will get up to about 100 to 150 in a few hours.” The event is designed to be inclusive and entertaining, with a “novelty section” planned for Saturday night that may include games played with beach balls, adding a fun twist to the competition.
Burling expressed pride in the community’s involvement, noting that he hopes to pass the hosting responsibilities to other indoor beach volleyball centres in the future. “As a West Aussie, [Telethon] is a point of pride. Everyone unites and gets behind the cause. I think it’s a really easy thing to get behind,” he said.
The volleyball marathon is just one of many creative fundraisers taking place across WA in anticipation of Telethon weekend. Other activities include Build-a-Bear workshops, bake sales, a **30-hour run-a-thon**, a CrossFit fundraiser, and a Dance-a-thon, all aimed at supporting the **161 beneficiaries** of Telethon.
Telethon 2025 will culminate with a live broadcast from **RAC Arena** for **26 hours**, starting next Saturday night, and will be available for viewing on **7 and 7plus**. This year’s events highlight the community’s dedication to supporting those in need, showcasing the spirit of giving that defines Telethon.
