With less than 24 hours until the start of Telethon 2025, preparations are in full swing for what is expected to be Western Australia’s largest annual charity event. Stages are being erected, celebrities are preparing to entertain, and the donation phones are poised to begin ringing. More than 1,000 volunteers from across the state are stepping forward to ensure the event runs smoothly.
The heart of this marathon broadcast will be the PerthNow Call Centre, where volunteers will work tirelessly during the 27-hour event. Katrina Fisher, a dedicated volunteer, expresses the unique joy that comes from participating. “It just brings me nothing but pure joy and happiness to be able to give back time to what I can only classify as the most amazing gift to these beautiful families who are going through the hardest times in their lives,” she remarked, preparing for her fourth year of volunteering.
Kirsty Perry, Fisher’s best friend and a veteran volunteer, shares a similar sentiment. Her journey with Telethon began in her childhood, where she fondly recalls staying up all night with her sister to watch the event. Now, as a mother battling cancer, Perry finds even more motivation to contribute. “Now that I’m a mum, Telethon carries even more meaning. Knowing it’s there for our kids, our families, and everyone across WA is truly incredible,” she stated.
As she faces her own challenges, Perry’s resolve to support the cause has only strengthened. “If no child ever has to suffer, then even a small contribution I can give feels like a way to give back,” she added. The camaraderie among volunteers is palpable, with both Fisher and Perry eager to continue their involvement for years to come. Perry humorously noted the anticipation that comes with submitting her application each year, hoping for acceptance into the volunteer ranks.
Outside the Call Centre, corporate support plays a significant role in the event’s success. Volunteers from Rio Tinto will assist with logistics and transportation for Channel 7 stars throughout Perth. Matthew Holcz, chief executive of Rio Tinto Iron Ore, emphasized the importance of community engagement. “At Rio Tinto, we’re proud of the many ways our people get involved in Telethon. It’s about giving time, backing our communities, and making a real difference for WA kids and families,” he said.
As Western Australia prepares to dig deep for Telethon 2025, the enthusiasm of volunteers stands out. Their dedication not only drives the event but also reinforces the spirit of community support that is essential to its success. With many families relying on the funds raised, this charity event exemplifies the power of collective action in making a positive impact.
The countdown to Telethon 2025 is on, and with the unwavering commitment of its volunteer army, this year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.
