Western Australia Boosts Agrifood Sector with Voucher Program

The Cook Government is enhancing the operations of agrifood and beverage businesses in Western Australia (WA) through its ongoing Agrifood and Beverage Voucher Program. In this latest initiative, an additional 80 businesses will receive support, enabling them to access expert advice aimed at building capability and fostering growth.

The current round of the program will distribute 100 vouchers valued at more than $680,000 to a diverse array of enterprises. Beneficiaries include companies involved in meat processing, baking, winemaking, spirits production, honey, pasta, pre-packaged meals, probiotics, juice, ice cream, and food supplements. Since its inception in 2018, the program has issued over 436 vouchers, amounting to a total value of $2.4 million, which has leveraged more than $3.38 million in co-investment from businesses.

These vouchers are projected to generate an impressive $884,000 in co-contributions, which will support various projects in business planning, growth-oriented manufacturing, sales and marketing strategies, and environmental sustainability. Recipients of the vouchers have utilized them to enhance production efficiencies, develop new product lines, establish distribution channels, and penetrate new markets, thereby reinforcing WA’s reputation for quality and innovation in the agrifood sector.

Government Support and Future Impact

Jackie Jarvis, the Agriculture and Food Minister, highlighted the significant interest in the Agrifood and Beverage Voucher Program, noting its vital role in assisting businesses to seize opportunities and address challenges. “This long-running and highly successful program is equipping these businesses with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to strengthen operations, innovate, and expand,” Jarvis stated.

Similarly, Stephen Dawson, the Regional Development Minister, expressed enthusiasm about the program’s impact across WA. He remarked, “This program is supporting hundreds of diverse WA agrifood and beverage businesses, from wine and spirits to chocolate and coffee, to ready-made meals and health supplements right across our State.” Dawson anticipates tangible benefits for businesses, which in turn will positively affect regional communities and economies.

This initiative not only demonstrates the Cook Government’s commitment to enhancing the agrifood sector but also points to a future where innovation and sustainability drive growth in Western Australia’s economy.
