Jaxson Dart Returns as Giants’ Starting QB for MNF Against Patriots

Jaxson Dart has been reinstated as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, taking all first-team repetitions this week in preparation for their upcoming game against the New England Patriots on “Monday Night Football.” This announcement was made by interim head coach Mike Kafka on Friday, following Dart’s clearance from concussion protocol.

Dart had previously missed two games due to a concussion, with Jameis Winston filling in as the starter during his absence. “I’m ready. I’ve been waiting for it,” Dart expressed after practice, emphasizing the excitement of competing in primetime. “These are the games you have circled on your calendar. I’m eager to rally the team to secure a win.” The Giants, currently with a record of 2-10, are looking to snap a six-game losing streak and a franchise-record twelve-game road skid.

Dart’s Journey Back to the Field

The announcement of Dart’s return comes after he was cleared on November 30, 2023. Despite feeling ready to play last week, medical staff advised against it, citing precautionary measures. Dart noted that he has been enduring approximately ten hits per game, raising concerns about his availability moving forward. “I need to be more available for this team,” Dart acknowledged. “The safety of my health is paramount.” He has faced multiple concussion evaluations this season, with the current concussion costing him two games of his rookie campaign.

During the game against the Chicago Bears on November 9, Dart sustained a concussion, marking the fourth time this season he required evaluation. He clarified that the previous evaluations were influenced by other factors, such as being out of breath, rather than direct head injuries. “I wasn’t in a good space to be out there,” he remarked regarding his return to the field after the injury.

Adapting to Change and Showing Respect

This game will mark Dart’s first appearance under Kafka’s leadership, following the dismissal of former head coach Brian Daboll on November 10. Dart has expressed admiration for Daboll, stating, “He’s an incredible offensive mind and has been pivotal in my development.” He acknowledged the challenges of the business and noted the respect he holds for Daboll and the coaching staff.

As Dart prepares for the challenge against the Patriots, who hold a strong record of 10-2 and a nine-game winning streak, he aims to leverage his experience and newfound awareness of the game’s physical demands. “I’m still getting used to this speed, this level,” Dart said, reflecting on his transition from college football to the NFL. “I have to be more responsible in the open field.” His upcoming performance could be crucial not only for his own growth but also for the struggling Giants as they seek to regain their footing in the league.
