Dreame AirStyle Pro: High Hopes but Major Shortcomings

The recent release of the Dreame AirStyle Pro aimed to rival the popular Dyson Airwrap, but initial reviews indicate significant shortcomings that could deter potential buyers. Although Dreame has quickly established itself in the home appliances market, the performance of the AirStyle Pro has not met expectations, leaving many to wonder if future iterations will address its faults.

Dreame, a brand that has gained recognition for its innovative appliances, had high hopes for the AirStyle Pro. The device was showcased at various events, including a demonstration at IFA where it received positive feedback from attendees. However, upon testing, the AirStyle Pro’s performance fell short in two critical areas: insufficient heat and attachment stability.

Design and Features Impress

The AirStyle Pro boasts a well-designed dryer component that feels comfortable and balanced during use. The intuitive control layout minimizes the likelihood of accidental adjustments, and a spring-loaded cool shot feature enhances usability. A variety of attachments are included, such as auto-wrapping curl barrels and smoothing brushes, which position the device as a versatile styling option. Additionally, the incorporation of a Flyaway attachment aims to rival the functionality of the Dyson Airwrap i.d., and a Fast Dry attachment offers an innovative angle for drying hair efficiently.

Price-wise, the AirStyle Pro competes directly with its main rival, the Shark FlexStyle, providing consumers with an alternative at a comparable investment level.

Performance Issues Undermine Potential

Despite its attractive features, the AirStyle Pro’s performance raises significant concerns. The most pressing issue is its inability to generate adequate heat for effective styling. With maximum heat settings of 80°C (176°F) on high and 50°C (122°F) on medium, many users have reported that it struggles to sufficiently dry hair, forcing them to resort to traditional hair dryers. This is particularly problematic for those with busy schedules who need efficient styling solutions.

A review revealed that even fine, collarbone-length hair failed to dry adequately, leading to frustration and lost time. Comparatively, the Dyson Airwrap i.d. reaches a maximum of 90°C (194°F), making it a more viable option for quick styling.

Another significant drawback is the attachment mechanism. The AirStyle Pro utilizes a simple twist system that lacks a secure ‘click’ feature or release switch. While this may function adequately for the Fast Dry attachment, users have experienced issues with brush tools detaching unexpectedly, resulting in tangled hair during styling. This lack of reliability could deter users seeking a seamless styling experience.

Despite these frustrations, there remains a sense of optimism surrounding the Dreame AirStyle Pro. Its innovative design and array of features suggest that with adjustments, it could become a strong competitor in the market. As the brand continues to grow, addressing these two major issues in a potential future version is crucial for achieving success.

As consumers await news of any updates, the AirStyle Pro serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by new entrants in the competitive hair styling industry.
