Mini Countryman S All4 Review: A Playful SUV with Practicality

The 2025 Mini Countryman S All4 has garnered attention for its blend of practicality and spirited driving experience. With an overall rating of 7.6/10 from CarExpert, it presents itself as a fun, compact SUV that appeals to a variety of drivers. The detailed breakdown of ratings includes a high safety score of 9.1/10 and a performance rating of 8.0/10, highlighting its capabilities in urban and open-road environments.

The Countryman S All4 is part of a diverse lineup that includes petrol and electric variants. This particular model features all-wheel drive and a higher output, making it a compelling choice for those looking for a lively driving experience. Measuring approximately 4.5 metres in length, the new generation Countryman is larger than its predecessors, providing more interior space while remaining smaller than many competitors in the segment. This balance makes it easier to navigate city streets and park in tight spaces, aligning with Mini’s ethos of being distinctively different.

Interior Design and Features

Inside, the Countryman S showcases a bold and colorful design that reflects the brand’s playful identity. The interior features a textured dashboard and vibrant trim, moving away from a monotonous black palette. The carefully designed space includes ample storage solutions such as large door bottle holders, a wireless phone charger, and a covered bin for added convenience.

The standout feature in the dashboard is the 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen media system, which adheres to Mini’s signature circular aesthetic. While the layout may initially seem complex, it includes modern functionalities such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Users can expect a responsive display with various customizable themes, including options like “Timeless” and “Go-Kart,” which add a unique flair to the user experience.

Rear seat comfort is commendable, with sufficient headroom and legroom for adults, although fitting three passengers across the rear bench may feel cramped due to the cabin’s width. The rear seats can slide to enhance either passenger or boot space, which is rated at 505 litres, expandable to 1,530 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

Performance and Driving Experience

Performance-wise, the Countryman S impresses with its agile handling and spirited ride. Equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, it manages power efficiently, although there may be some hesitation at low speeds. The firm ride quality, typical of Mini vehicles, is evident on bumpy roads. While it offers excellent body control, potential buyers should note that road noise can be noticeable, particularly on rough surfaces.

The vehicle is powered by a robust engine that delivers a lively driving experience, especially when engaging “Go-Kart mode.” The steering is direct and responsive, though it can feel somewhat twitchy, which might require adjustment for urban driving or parking situations.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Countryman S reports a consumption of 10.1L/100km in varied driving conditions, requiring premium fuel, which some may find less appealing.

Safety features are a strong point for the Countryman, which achieved a five-star rating from ANCAP in 2024. It comes equipped with seven airbags and advanced driver assistance systems, making it a secure choice for families.

Mini Australia supports its models with a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty and offers a three-year roadside assistance package at no extra cost. Additionally, buyers can opt for a five-year servicing package for $2,250 AUD, ensuring peace of mind with maintenance schedules.

Overall, the Mini Countryman S All4 stands out as a fun and practical small SUV. While it may not be the right fit for everyone, its unique character and driving dynamics make it a viable option for those seeking a lively and stylish vehicle.
