88-Year-Old Passenger Dies After SUV Rolls in Hunter Region Crash

URGENT UPDATE: An 88-year-old woman has tragically died following a severe crash involving two SUVs on the Hunter Expy at Greta, in the Hunter Region of NSW. The incident occurred just before 5:20 PM on Friday when her vehicle collided with another SUV, causing her car to roll multiple times, as confirmed by NSW Police.

Both the elderly passenger and her driver, a 61-year-old woman from Bonnells Bay, were trapped in the wreckage for approximately one hour. Emergency responders airlifted the critically injured woman to John Hunter Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that evening. The driver was also transported to the hospital by ambulance but is expected to recover.

The second SUV was driven by a 63-year-old woman from Aberdeen, who was uninjured in the crash. She had been driving ahead of the other vehicle and stopped nearby after witnessing the horrific incident.

As investigations continue, authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to contact Crime Stoppers. A report is set to be prepared for the coroner, emphasizing the need for clarity surrounding this tragic event.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers on our roads, especially for vulnerable passengers. The community awaits further updates as authorities delve into the circumstances of this fatal crash.
