UPDATE: Accessibility at Kyneton Station has just improved significantly with the installation of a new switchback ramp, enhancing travel for passengers, particularly those using mobility aids. This crucial upgrade, part of a broader effort by V/Line to enhance accessibility across the network, will facilitate smoother access for over 2,500 passengers who utilize the station weekly.
The new ramp, designed for increased passing space, is accompanied by newly installed lighting to ensure safe access at night. Additionally, the bus shelter has been relocated, and a widened footpath has been created to accommodate the ramp. These enhancements are part of a more than $10 million program aimed at upgrading accessibility at 16 V/Line stations.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating, “We’re always looking for opportunities to make improvements and these important upgrades at Kyneton Station will support passengers with accessibility needs.”
In related developments, Clarkefield Station on the Bendigo line has also received a new ramp and an accessible ticket counter, further improving travel for passengers with mobility challenges.
The state government is also enhancing train services on the Bendigo line, with additional weekend capacity now available. The upgrade means that fourteen weekend services, previously running as three-carriage VLocity trains, will now operate with six carriages to meet rising passenger demand.
Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the public transport network, stating, “We’re continually working to deliver a more accessible transport network, and these improvements will make a difference to passengers’ experience at Kyneton Station.”
These urgent upgrades not only improve access for individuals with mobility needs but also reflect a broader commitment to a safer and more reliable public transport system across regional Victoria. As the region continues to grow, such enhancements are crucial for accommodating the increasing number of travelers.
