URGENT UPDATE: Albany is alive with festive spirit this December as homes and gardens transform into a dazzling display of Christmas lights. Local resident Colin Bairstow is leading the charge, showcasing his spectacular decorations at his home in Yakamia. With the holiday season in full swing, Bairstow’s display has already attracted over 70 visitors since it officially lit up on December 1.
Bairstow, a passionate Christmas light enthusiast, began his tradition in the 1990s when his children were young. “I started off with one or two strings of lights and built them up over the years,” he explained. This year, his elaborate arrangement includes a whimsical scene featuring Father Christmas in a cement mixer, illuminated kangaroos, and waves of twinkling lights that captivate the community.
Each year, Bairstow amplifies the excitement by dressing as a festive elf, distributing 10 kilos of lollies, and playing cheerful music to create a joyful atmosphere. “Seeing everybody happy and the smiles on their faces is my favorite thing,” he said, embodying the Christmas spirit that brings people together.
Visitors can enjoy Bairstow’s enchanting display at his home on Hayward Crest, with additional stunning decorations visible on Hume Corner. For those eager to explore more festive displays across Albany, the community is encouraged to check out the Albany WA Christmas Lights page on Facebook for a comprehensive list of locations.
As the countdown to Christmas continues, local residents and visitors alike are invited to bask in the joy and wonder that these dazzling displays bring. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic of the season; it’s a celebration that promises to warm hearts and spread holiday cheer across Albany.
