Ballan Library Opens with $7.25 Million Investment, Thrills Community

BREAKING: The highly anticipated Ballan Library and Community Hub officially opened on September 6, 2023, during a vibrant community event that drew an enthusiastic crowd. The new facility, a significant investment of $7.25 million, is already proving to be a hit among locals, boosting community spirit and engagement.

The grand unveiling featured an array of entertainment, including magic tricks, live music, children’s activities, and food vendors, transforming the library into a lively gathering place. This modern hub is located at 127 Inglis Street, Ballan, and emphasizes not just book lending but a wide range of community services.

Key features of the Ballan Library include state-of-the-art digital resources, study spaces, areas specifically designed for children and youth to promote literacy, and health services for mothers and children. Additionally, the library boasts an art exhibition space, a visitor information center, and community meeting rooms, making it a versatile asset for the town.

The opening ceremony included the unveiling of a brass plaque and the announcement of two newly named animal statues in the outdoor area. Following an online competition, the statues are now known as Wally the wombat (also called Sir Digs-A-Lot) and Snoot the echidna (nicknamed Detective Spikes), adding a whimsical touch to the library’s landscape.

Approximately $5 million of the total funding came from the state government, with $2.25 million provided by the Moorabool Council and $250,000 contributed by the community. The collaborative effort highlights the importance of community involvement in making such projects a reality.

Moorabool Mayor Paul Tatchell expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a wonderful asset for the people of Ballan and surrounds. The number of visitors in its first few weeks has exceeded council expectations.” This enthusiasm reflects a strong community desire for a space that fosters learning and connection.

Local MP Michaela Settle described the library as a “landmark investment” for the community, emphasizing its potential to create positive impacts for residents. “I know this facility will make a huge difference to everyone in town,” she said, highlighting the collaborative efforts that brought the library to fruition.

As residents flock to the new space, the Ballan Library is set to become a crucial part of daily life, offering educational programs, cultural events, and community gatherings. This exciting development marks a new chapter for Ballan, promising to enrich the lives of its residents and strengthen community ties.

Stay tuned for more updates on how the library is impacting the Ballan community and what events are planned in the coming weeks!
