BREAKING: Belle Morton has just been announced as the 2025 dux of Kerang Technical High School, achieving an impressive ATAR of 80.85. The news caught her off guard when her Year 12 coordinator delivered the surprise call earlier today.
“I was pretty shocked because I definitely didn’t expect to get it,” Morton stated, reflecting on the unexpected recognition. While she aimed for an ATAR of 80, she never set the goal of becoming dux, showcasing her humble approach to academics.
Morton, like many students in small towns, balanced her studies with extracurricular activities, including netball and ballet dancing. “I tried not to get burnt out and study too hard. I made sure to still do my sport and spend time with friends while studying,” she shared, emphasizing the importance of balance during the demanding Year 12.
Throughout the academic year, Morton’s confidence fluctuated as she received her results. “Sometimes I’d feel confident, and other times I wouldn’t,” she explained, highlighting the emotional rollercoaster that many students experience during exams.
Her favorite subjects – Legal Studies, English, and Health – played a significant role in her success. Morton credits her strong support network, including family and friends, for helping her achieve her goals. “My family was really great, and I had a good group of friends. We helped each other through the year,” she noted.
She expressed gratitude to the staff at Kerang Technical High School for their guidance. “They were always very happy to help and sit down with you whenever you needed it,” Morton said, underscoring the supportive environment at the school.
Looking ahead, Morton plans to pursue a career in education, aiming to study primary teaching at Deakin University in Geelong. This aspiration developed during remote learning when she assisted her younger sisters with their studies while her parents worked as essential workers. “I had a moment when I was teaching my sisters and thought, ‘Oh, I could actually do this as a career,’” she recalled.
As Morton prepares for the next chapter in her education, she has valuable advice for current Year 11 and Year 12 students facing exams: “Work hard, but definitely balance out your life.”
With her remarkable achievements and inspiring outlook, Belle Morton serves as a role model for students navigating the challenges of education today.
