Cairns Unveils Stunning Murals to Celebrate Local Spirit

BREAKING: The second mural in the Cairns Regional Council’s 2025 neighbourhood murals project has just been unveiled at Touch Park, located on Quarry St, Aeroglen. This vibrant artwork, designed by local artist Loretta Lizzio and nominated by Cr Rob Pyne (Division 5), is an artistic tribute to the unique character of Aeroglen, showcasing its lush tropical landscapes, majestic mountain ranges, and the native wildlife that thrive in the area.

This development arrives as the community eagerly embraces the project’s impact on local culture. The mural captures not only the beauty of the surroundings but also the spirit of the residents, making it a centerpiece for the community.

In addition to the Aeroglen mural, the final project is underway at Endeavour Park in Manunda. Local artist Cam Scale, nominated by Cr Anna Middleton (Division 7), is working on a mural titled “Grass Roots.” This piece emphasizes community and sportsmanship, depicting a child lacing up their boots for a free kick, symbolizing inclusivity and aspiration. The mural’s design is a celebration of Australian culture, prominently featuring the national colors of green and gold.

The unveiling of the Aeroglen mural has sparked excitement among residents. The Cairns Touch Association expressed their gratitude on Facebook, stating, “Thank you Loretta Lizzio and Cr Rob Pyne. Such a wonderful initiative! We’re proud and happy to have been involved in bringing this stunning mural to life at our club.”

Community members have taken to social media to share their enthusiasm. One local remarked, “Awesome result, well done,” while fellow artist Hayley Gillespie described it as “beautiful.” Another resident, Rod Jennings, praised the project, saying, “Such a great use of CRC assets to enhance the community. Kudos to all involved.”

As the project progresses, the community is urged to follow the developments closely. The murals not only beautify the neighborhoods but also strengthen community bonds, reflecting the rich narratives of the residents.

Stay tuned for more updates as the final mural at Endeavour Park nears completion, promising to further engage and inspire the local community. The 2025 neighbourhood murals project is reshaping the cultural landscape of Cairns, one brushstroke at a time.
